Notes From The Austintown Newsletter To Club Members
OPTIMIST INVITATIONAL TRACK MEET, MAY 7: First of all, we badly need
for you to sell advertising for the track programs. ( See Joann Sulenski for the ad forms.) We get keep that to help pay for
all the trophies and ribbons. Secondly, we need your help in working at one of the two gates selling admission,
and, separately, the track programs. FISHING DERBY FOR “SPECIAL”
FRIENDS: This is my favorite of all youth projects. It is always held the first Sunday
of June. This year, June 5. Go to encourage the development of youth. Actually, there
is little we can do in the way of “development” but we sure can help them have a good time. This
is something some look forward to for several weeks in advance.

Our Refreshing Side
We held the 42nd annual Austintown Optimist Speech Tournament Saturday November 20th.
The speech coaches set everything up and invite the participants. This year, there were about 520 participants.
The tournament is an all day event.

Our club sells the concessions
and uses the profits to pay for the trophies. Members and friends do all the kitchen work and serving.

"I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that Darlene Schaefer spearheads the project from
picking up much of the food to scheduling our members to work. No one in the history of the club has done a better job
of running this project." Says President Bill Sulenski.
